Despite
its extensive features, the key strength of Wine Cellar
II is its intuitive and easy to use design. Novices
and experienced users alike will quickly become adept at using
Wine Cellar II.
Wine
Cellar II makes use of standard Windows features so that it
looks and feels just like your other Windows applications:
-
Automated install and uninstall
- Intuitive menus, tool bars and
icons
- Windows Explorer type split-window interface
for quick and easy browsing
- Optional Tips displayed when starting
the application.
- Wizards to simplify multi-step
tasks
- Context sensitive help with step
by step instructions
- Multiple pop-up windows
- Double click on any list item to
see more details
- Full keyboard control and quick-keys
for experienced users
The
flexible design of Wine Cellar II lets you use as many
or as few of the features as you need.

The
wine cellar explorer lets you easily browse your wine collection
by any general wine category:
There
are also a number of quick view lists to browse your wine collection
by other categories.

When
you add a new wine to Wine Cellar II, you can record as
much or as little information as you want. The only items you
must specify are the grape variety, brand, region and vintage.
However the more information you have, the more graphs and reports
you can make use of.
For
each wine, you can also record:
- current retail price and standard bottle size
- best drinking years
- quality rating (5-star)
- score (100-point)
- winemakers rating for the particular vintage
- multiple notes by date and author
- food match
- organic indicator
- bar code

|

Information
about a particular wine is recorded only once. If you buy more bottles
of a wine you already have, you only need to record the number of
bottles purchased.
 |
For
any purchase you can also record:
- purchase date
- purchase price
- bottle size.

By using the
Rack Wizard you can create any number of racks up to 26 columns wide (A-Z) and
99 rows high (0-99). Each rack location is referred to by it's
grid reference, for example B2. You can create any rack shape
by setting non-existent locations to an unusable status.
Bins,
which do not hold bottles by location, can hold up to 999 bottles.
|
Racks
can be displayed visually to allow the block selection of
bottles or simply to see how much room you have left.
When
you move the mouse over a bottle, it's number and description
are displayed.
|
|
Or you can
display a rack's contents as a list for sorting and viewing details
in the usual way.

When a bottle
is removed from a rack or bin, it's location can be used by another
bottle. When you purchase new bottles, you can have Wine Cellar
II automatically assign the new bottles to available locations
in the rack you choose.
You can then
print a bottle movement list telling you where to place each bottle.
Or you can
assign any unracked bottles to bins or rack locations of your
choice. You have complete control.

 |
You
can search for wines in your cellar by just about any category
including food match, organic, when it was bought, ready for
drinking or opened. When you have found the wine you want,
Wine Cellar II can tell you how many bottles you have
and where each bottle is.

Wine Cellar II is also an integrated electronic wine buyers
guide* with full browsing and search capabilities.
Internet
Updates keep the buyer's guide up to date with the latest cellaring
guidelines, tasting notes and other wine details. An Internet
enabled wine guide need never be out of date.
Internet
Updates are downloaded from the Internet by Wine Cellar II at
the click of a button for viewing at any later time.
All
of the following information can be downloaded:
- cellaring guidelines
- current retail price
- tasting notes (to compliment your own)
- quality rating (5-star)
- score (100-point)
- winemaker's rating for the vintage
- food matches
- bar code
- organic indicator
You can choose to update just the selected wine (shortest download
time), all wines from all wineries (longest download time) or
a range of options in between.
You
also have single click access to a winery's web site if you need
more information.
Switching
between the buyers guide and your own cellar is done simply by
toggling the All check-box. This tells Wine Cellar II
to display either All wines or those you have in your cellar only.
*Internet
access required to take advantage of the wine buyers guide. No
wine details supplied with the software. Internet updates available
from participating wineries only.

Vinoté
is a patented wine storage and inventory system. Bottles
carry a neck tag with a highly visible number and detachable
bar code.
Vinoté
provide free indexing and lookup software with their cellar
books, but recommend Wine Cellar II for it's rich
feature set and incorporated Vinoté functionality.
|
Wine Cellar
II will automatically assign Vinoté tag numbers to bottles
if the starting tag number has been set. Wine Cellar II also
has search and bottle opening functions designed specifically
for the Vinoté tag numbering system.

A
bar code scanner can speed up many of the common functions performed
within Wine Cellar II. Most
bar code scanners do not need configuring or require any special
drivers. They simply plug into the keyboard socket between the
computer and the keyboard. Numbers scanned by the bar code are
sent to the computer as if they were typed by the keyboard.
Wine Cellar II can store the bar code displayed on most wine labels. When you purchase one or more bottles of a wine, simply press F6 to initiate a bar code purchase operation, then scan the bar code. The wine's details are displayed for confirmation. You can then enter the quantity purchased and cost price and press Enter to complete the operation.
Bar codes (or your own numbering sequence) can also be assigned to individual bottles. As bottles are added, Wine Cellar II assigns bottle numbers sequentially starting at the number you set (default value is 1). You can change a bottle's number or the numbering sequence at any time.
Multiple bottles can be opened in a single operation by scanning each label bar code or each bottle's individual bar code. Whenever more than 1 bottle is found that matches a bar code, you will be prompted with the matching list to make your selection.

Finding
all wines that you have more than 1 vintage of is as simple as
clicking the Vertical Tasting button on the toolbar.
For
each wine, Wine Cellar II can tell you how many bottles
you have of each vintage, when they are ready to drink, their
ratings and retail prices.

The
obvious benefits of cellar management software over any manual
system is the ability to summarise and analyse the wines you have
at any time.
There
are many graphs in Wine Cellar II to summarise your buying
and drinking patterns and to analyse what you currently have in
your cellar. These include:
-
Quantity/cost of bottles bought each month
- Quantity/value of bottles opened
each month
- Number of bottles ready for drinking
each year
-
Breakdown of current wines by colour/type, variety, region, country,
vintage, quality rating or retail price
- Number of bottles in your cellar over time

You
can print any browser window, quick view list, search query result,
rack listing, bottle listing or graph as a neatly formatted report.
Lists
of wines can also be printed with
the location of each bottle.

If
you already use a spreadsheet or database to manage your wine
collection, you can import this data directly into Wine Cellar
II using the clever import Wizard.
Wine
Cellar II can import from (and export to):
- Microsoft Excel spreadsheets - up to Excel 97
- Microsoft
Access databases - up to Access 97
- comma delimited text files
Wine
Cellar II will also import your PMC Wine Cellar 99 database.

A
PC (Pentium 100MHz or faster) running Microsoft Windows 95 or later with
24MB Memory (32MB recommended), 22MB Disk Space and 640x480
VGA Screen (800x600 recommended).

Wine
Cellar II has been developed using the latest 32-bit development
tools. It is optimised for the Windows 95, 98 and NT environments,
and therefor will not run under the Windows 3.1 operating
system.
